Two killed in bus-truck collision in Dong Nai

Two people were killed and three others injured after a collision between a coach bus and truck on Wednesday morning in Dong Nai Province's Trang Bom District. According to local traffic police, the coach was travelling from HCM City to southern Dong Nai Province's Long Khanh Town. It was attempting to pass an auto in the same direction, and collided with the truck, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

First diesel engine plant opens in Hai Phong

Bach Dang Shipbuilding Industry Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Co Ltd on Wednesday opened its diesel engine manufacturing and assembling factory in the northern port city of Hai Phong. The factory, the first of its kind in Viet Nam, will manufacture and assemble 22 engines with a capacity of between 2,600 and 23,500kW per year.

Platform collapse damages two houses

A launching platform collapsed on Wednesday morning in HCM City's District 12, damaging two houses. During the lifting process at an automobile storage space at the Dung Tien Construction Company at 172 TX21 Street in Thanh Xuan Ward, the cable on the platform broke and fell on a house at 168/6 TX 21 Street, damaging the house. Half of the first floor and lean-to of the next house at No168/4 were also damaged.

Work starts on $140m food processing plant

The Taiwan-based Uni-President Company on Wednesday started work on a factory cluster that produces wheat flour, instant noodles and feed for aquaculture and animal breeding in central Quang Nam Province's Dien Ban-Dien Ngoc Industrial Park. Covering 13ha, the project is estimated to cost US$140 million and be completed in one year. It is expected to provide about 400,000 tonnes of products a year for both local markets and exports, creating 1,000 jobs.

Ministry proposes 10.7% electricity rate hike

The Ministry of Finance's Price Management Department has proposed a price hike of electricity, with the maximum rate of 10.7 per cent and the lowest of 6.8 per cent. The proposal follows others made by Electricity of Viet Nam and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

According to the department's calculation, if the electricity price increased by 10.7 per cent, the consumer price index (CPI) would rise by 0.36 per cent, and households would have to pay an additional VND5,000-10,000 each month. If the hike was 6.8 per cent, the CPI would go up by 0.23 per cent, and households would have to spend an additional VND5,000-8,600 a month for electricity.
