Rural students receive career guidance

More than 11,000 high school students in Da Nang and Hoi An in the central region last weekend receive free vocational guidance from a group of university leaders, employers and labour experts, thanks to a programme launched by the city's Department of Education and Training and its partners in HCM City. They also received free documents and leaflets featuring the latest information about the upcoming university entrance examinations.

Rescued Filipino fishermen sent to embassy

Five Filipino fishermen, rescued by Vietnamese fishermen living in central Binh Dinh Province on February 8, were transferred last weekend and sent to the Philippines Embassy in Viet Nam. They had been cared for by the local fishermen before being transferred to authorities.

263 housing projects in the pipeline

The country has 263 house building projects, with more than 200,000 houses for low-income people, with investment capital totalling nearly VND73 trillion ($3.7 billion), according to the Ministry of Construction's Housing and Real Estate Management. This year, in Ha Noi and HCM City, around 10,000 new houses will be provided.

Ha Noi suspends planned golf courses

The Ha Noi People's Committee decided to temporarily stop building 11 golf course projects, which were to include hotels, trade and entertainment centres. In its efforts to make the projects useful, the authorities will oversee the projects more closely and work with investors.

Hau Giang attracts $185m investment

In the first two months of the year, southern Hau Giang Province approved 132 new projects with the total investment of VND3,7 trillion ($185 million). More than 1,500 local and foreign enterprises received business licenses this year. Last year, the province attracted 297 local businessmen, achieving VND800 billion ($40 million) in total investment capital, an increase of 17 per cent compared to the same period of 2008.
