BIDV backs upgrade of Viet-Duc hospital

The Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV) on Tuesday signed a credit agreement with the Viet-Duc Hospital, which will use the money to expand its building, train staff and upgrade medical facilities.

The total investment is around VND550 billion (US$28.2 million), of which the BIDV will fund VND400 billion ($20.5 million). The hospital will borrow VND120 billion ($6.15 million) from the German Bank for Reconstruction and the rest will come from the Government's budget. The projects are expected to be completed by late 2013.

HCM City gives 1,148 scholarships to poor

The HCM City Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients has donated 1,148 scholarships worth VND1.2 billion (US$61,538) for poor or disadvantaged students in 16 provinces and cities this year. The contributions came from local and foreign organisations and individuals. More than 10,000 scholarships valued at VND9 billion have been awarded to poor students over the last decade by the association.

Da Nang okays plan to boost software exports

The People's Committee of Da Nang City has approved a project to boost exports of software products. Under the project, the city's software outsourcing market is expected to achieve annual growth of 30-35 per cent by 2015. It aims to raise the number of skilful IT staff to 5,000-7,000 by 2015. By that time, earnings from software exports are expected to reach US$50 million.

The project includes support policies for software export companies, upgrading of IT infrastructure for Da Nang Software Park, and support for enterprises to build brands and conduct promotion programmes and training for human resources. The project is estimated to cost VND48.55 billion ($2.48 million).
