Several products reach $1b export turnover
According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, 13 Vietnamese products have exceeded the target of US$1 billion export turnover this month. They include textiles and garments ($6.89b), crude oil ($3.31b), footwear ($3.22b), seafood ($2.918b), rice ($2.358b), wood and wood products ($2.11b).

$1.2b to be invested to connect delta areas
The Ministry of Transport on Thursday held a conference with Viet Nam Government officials and investors in the project Connecting The Mekong Delta's centres in the areas of three provinces of Dong Thap, An Giang, and Can Tho. The project has six parts: Cao Lanh Bridge and several paths, a road connecting the Cao Lanh-Vam Cong route, Vam Cong Bridge and various paths, the route from National Highway No 91 (but not the pass to Long Xuyen City), a 5.7-km route from provincial road No 943 to National Highway No 91, and the My An-Cao Lanh route. The total investment capital for the project's first phase was estimated at US$1.2 billion.

Deo Ca Pass Tunnel project proposal on hold
The Directorate for Roads of Viet Nam under the Ministry of Transport on Thursday confirmed that it had not yet approved the construction of the Deo Ca Pass Tunnel. The directorate is waiting for the Deo Ca Investment Joint-Stock Company's detailed report on the project's scale, technical standards, investment, and toll technology. Because of the delay, the project will not kick off in October as announced.
Deo Ca Pass Tunnel connecting Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa provinces has a total length of 11.25km with estimated investment capital of VND9.5 trillion (US$490 million).

Plan for border gate economic zone approved
The People's Committee of central Ha Tinh Province on Thursday said the Prime Minister had announced a master plan to build the Cau Treo Border Gate Economic Zone in the province. Cau Treo Border Gate Economic Zone has a total area of 56.685ha. Bordered by Bolikhamsai province of neighbouring Laos in the west, Cau Treo will be a general economic zone for industry, trade, service, tourism, residences, agriculture and forestry.
Malaysia's Petronas Carigali Overseas Bhd announced that it had found oil and gas at the Ham Rong-2X exploration well in Blocks 102 and 106. The prospective area is about 75km southeast of Hai Phong City. The maximum recoverable reserve is 6,300 barrels of oil and 8 million cubic feet of gas a day. This is the first discovery by partners of Blocks 102 and 106. Petronas Carigali Overseas Bhd has drilled seven wells since November last year.
