New phone subscribers drop by 16.8%
HA NOI — The number of new phone subscribers reached 8 million in the first nine months of this year, a 16.8 per cent decrease compared to the same period last year.
Of the new subscribers, 43,900 were for fixed-telephones and 7.9 million for mobile phones.
At the end of September there were 129.7 million phone subscribers nationwide.
Meanwhile, the General Statistics Office reported that there were 4.1 million new internet subscribers in the first nine months of the year, 18 per cent more than the same period last year.
There are now 31.7 million internet subscribers nationwide.
Harvard students to work for Vinagame
HA NOI — Vinagame Corporation (VNG) said this week six students who are doing an MBA course at the Harvard Business School in the US would be taking part in a four-month research course at VNG, starting this month.
The course is paid for by Harvard Business School.
During the course, the students will learn about the internet market, in particular digital entertainment.
When they graduate, they will be employed by the VNG to work on on-line products such as Zing Me, Zing Mp3 and Zing News.
Tax information to be available via SMS
HA NOI — Military-run telecom service provider Viettel and the General Department of Taxation have signed an agreement to provide tax advice via text messaging.
To use the service, taxpayers must first register with the tax authorities.
Sony introduces HD video conferencing system
HA NOI — Sony Electronics Viet Nam conducted a seminar on Thursday to introduce its HD video conferencing system.
The workshop focused on the outstanding performance and stylish design of the Sony HD television.
Kei Motono, Sony's professional director in Viet Nam, said the new PCS-VSC/SD would provide high-definition images and lively sound.
Taiwanese ICT firms eye Vietnamese market
HA NOI — Taiwan considers Viet Nam an important market in Asia for its technological products, said Wayne W Wu, deputy chairman of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council.
At a forum on Taiwanese information and communications technology (ICT) firms in Ha Noi on Thursday, Wayne said Viet Nam had great potential as a market for hi-tech products.
A number of Taiwanese ICT firms are currently operating in Viet Nam, including Acer, ZyXEL, HTC, Transcend, D-Link and MSI.
Truong Van Anh, IDG's regional director, said the Vietnamese were particularly attracted by Apple computers; mobile phones such as Iphone, HTC, Blackberry; and cameras by Cannon and Nikon.
Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 to meet local needs
HA NOI — Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, a software resource enterprise, would be modified for the Vietnamese market later this year, Votiva Viet Nam announced at a presentation ceremony in Ha Noi this week.
The software and interface meet Vietnamese regulations and standards.
The software was demonstrated in HCM City last week. — VNS
