Factory linked to untreated waste
HAI DUONG — The wholly Chinese-invested East Asia Aluminium company in Tan Dan Commune, Chi Linh District, northern Hai Duong Province, has been found to be releasing untreated waste water into the local environment, according to environment inspectors. The waste has damaged surrounding crops owned by local residents.
Earlier, the company offered local farmers compensation worth VND50 million ($2,500) per ha after the pollution was discovered. However, farmers have taken the matter to the provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment. — VNS
