Two-day cold snap hits northern region

HA NOI — The weather in the north of the country today remains cold although the temperature is expected to rise over the next few days, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecast.

Light rains and temperatures of 11-19 degrees and 8-15 degrees Celsius have been forecast for the north and the northern mountainous provinces, respectively.

Meanwhile, up-to-61kph (Force 7) winds and rough seas have been reported in the Bac Bo (Tonkin) Gulf.

Hand-shaped giant winged yam found

HA TINH – A large winged yam weighing 11.5 kilos was dug up in the garden of a farmer in Yen Loc Hamlet of central Ha Tinh Province.

Farmer Dang Van Huan said he planted it in April 2009 but thought it was a rotten piece of wood after digging it up.

The yam is being kept by Huan and his family. — VNS
