15,000 kilos of animal lard seized

QUANG NAM — Over 15,000 kilos of questionable-origin animal lard were found and seized on Monday in Dien Ban District in central Quang Nam Province by the provincial Market Watch Department.

Pham Dung, the owner of the lard, failed to show a business license or quarantine certificate.

Dung admitted to the police that he had collected the lard from local markets then brought it to sell to nearby provinces.

Man died while putting out forest fire

LAI CHAU — Ly Dau Quay, 24, a militiaman, died while fighting a forest fire on Sunday at a terrace in Ma Ly Pho Commune, Phong Tho District in northern Lai Chau Province, said Tan Cu So, chairman of the communal People's Committee.

Quay and local people quickly put out the blaze when they saw it at Son Thau 2 terrace near Ma Ly Pho. During the process, a rock from the mountain rolled down and fell onto Quay, killing him.

Local authorities have given VND25 million (US$1,300) to his family.-VNS
