Vietnamese donors build Laos hospital
Vientiane — Construction of the first private hospital for mothers and children paid for by an overseas Vietnamese family in Laos started last Friday in Vientiane.
Laos' Deputy Prime Minister, Asang Laoly, health minister Ponmet Dalaloi and the President of the Vietnamese Association in Laos, Hoang Dieu, along with other senior officials attended the ground-breaking ceremony.
Addressing the event, Ponmet Dalaloi spoke highly of the hospital's significance, saying that the project will not only create favourable conditions for treatment but will also help reduce the mortality rate of Lao children. He expressed his hope that more private hospitals would be built in his country.
Covering an area of 12,550sq.m, the seven-storey hospital will accommodate 120 beds, waiting rooms and basements equipped with modern facilities.
Construction of the US$3.8 million project, funded by Dang Tien Thanh and Bien Thi Ki, is expected to be completed in 18 months. — VNS
