VN, Mozambique take steps to boost ties in many areas

HA NOI — Viet Nam and Mozambique will take steps to boost co-operation in many areas.

This was agreed at a meeting between Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his Mozambican counterpart, Aires Bonifacio Ali, in Ha Noi yesterday.

They decided an inter-governmental committee meeting should be held to review developments and outline future moves.

Dung said the visit by the Mozambican highlighted 35 years of sound political ties between the two countries.

He applauded the achievements of the Mozambican people in reforming and building the country.

Ali said he valued the efficiency of the programmes underway, particularly in investment, commerce, agriculture, healthcare and education.

He also invited Dung to visit Mozambique, saying there was room for Vietnamese enterprises to promote investment there.

The Vietnamese PM said Viet Nam was also ready to share its experiences in building the economy, healthcare, education and poverty reduction.

On the same day, Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh also received PM Ali.

Ali expressed his admiration for Viet Nam's great achievements during the national liberation and appreciation for Viet Nam's experiences in socio-economic development, and emphasised that Viet Nam was a good model for Mozambique to follow.

For his part, Manh spoke highly of Ali's visit and its outcomes. He affirmed that Viet Nam was determined to foster friendly co-operation, comprehensive partnership and equal and mutual support between the two nations.

Manh also took the opportunity to convey his thanks and greetings to the President of Mozambique and the Chairman of the Mozambique Liberation Front.

Opportunity

President Nguyen Minh Triet described Mozamb-ique Prime Minister Aires Bonifacio Ali's visit to Viet Nam as an opportunity to consolidate the mutual friendship between two nations when he greeted his guest the same day.

It also offered a chance to expand co-operation, particularly in agricultural development.

"The Vietnamese Government would continue to encourage enterprises to go to Mozambique to promote rice cultivation to both help the country ensure food security and develop exports of the grain," he said.

Prime Minister Ali emphasised his invitation for Viet Nam's enteprises to invest in economic sectors that have been given priority – especially food – so as to make the best of Mozambique's natural advantage, including land, and Viet Nam's rice-growing expertise.

The Prime Minister said he was honoured to be visiting Viet Nam at a time when so many significant anniversaries were being held and conveyed the regards from Mozambique's President Armando Emilio Guebuza.

Before arriving in Ha Noi, the Mozambicans visited HCM City and the two southern provinces of Binh Phuoc and Tien Giang. ­­— VNS
