Suspects prosecuted for theft in HCM City

HCM CITY — Three suspects will be prosecuted for swindling and appropriating VND5 billion (US$264,000) by the Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam.

Suspects Nguyen Quy, 33, and Nguyen Thi Thuy Minh, 29, from Phu Nhuan District, created fake documents to prove they held a legal investment certificate for Project No22 in District 3.

They transferred the fake certificate to Ha Noi Export Import Company and received money in return.

Police bust major drug ring in HCM City

HCM CITY — HCM City Police in Binh Chanh District this week busted a large drug smuggling ring that reportedly was largely serving the gay community, according to local police.

Nguyen Tan Thanh, 28, his girlfriend Vuong Thuan An, 25, and his young brother Nguyen Tan Trung, 25, were arrested for smuggling heroin, ecstasy and marijuana from Cambodia to HCM City.

Thanh was arrested on Wednesday on Nguyen Trai Street carrying 170 grammes of drugs, valued at $12,000, along with VND17 million ($890) in cash on his SH motorbike. — VNS
