People greatest resource, health given high priority

HA NOI — Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh yesterday said that the Party and Government always focus on protecting and taking care of people's health, and developing health sector serves as their priority in ensuring social welfare.

He made the statement while visiting Ha Noi's Bach Mai Hospital on the occasion of the Lunar New Year Holiday.

Manh said that protecting and taking care of people's health ensures human resources for the country's construction and defence so investment for the health sector is to invest in the country's development.

Manh asked the health sector to continue educating health staff in morality and virtue and boosting the implementation of the campaign to "Study and Follow Ho Chi Minh's moral example". He also urged the sector to mobilise all forces to control, combat and prevent epidemics; improve the quality of health checks and treatment to meet demand; apply effective methods to minimise the overloaded situation in hospitals and allocate health experts and technique to local health stations.

Manh said that it was also necessary to increase investment in developing training institutions to raise the health staff's competence and ensure medical supplies, while stabilising medicine prices.

He urged the relevant authorities to conduct more inspections to ensure the quality and safe sourcing of drugs and develop domestic production plans.

Manh also highly appreciated the voluntary work conducted by doctors, physicians and officers in rural health stations and the successful application of advanced technology in the health sector.

He also expressed his pleasure at Bach Mai Hospital's important role in assisting technique and improving staff competence in local health stations. — VNS
