HA NOI — Vietnamese top swimmer Vo Thai Nguyen bagged two golds and one silver at the Malaysia Open over the weekend.

Nguyen finished first in the men's 200m butterfly with a time of 2min 03.49sec, beating Hong Kong's Ling Tin Yu, who came in second in 2:05.24; and Singapore's Raier Ng, who placed third in 2:07.64.

The An Giang-born athlete clocked a time of 4:32.42 in the 400m medley, marking his second gold at Kuala Lumpur-based Bukit Jalin sports centre on Saturday.

He then finished second in the 200m medley for a silver medal, while his team-mate Pham Thanh Nguyen bagged a silver in 200m freestyle.

Teenager Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen bagged the third gold for Viet Nam when she saved a time in 2:16.61 in the women's 200m butterfly.

Nguyen Thi Anh Vien took a silver medal in the women's 400m medley on Saturday.

The event, the Shanghai World Swimming Championships qualifiers, continues today. — VNS
