Best golfers to tee up at Asian Mercedes cup
HA NOI — The seven best golfers were selected to represent Viet Nam at the Mercedes Trophy Asia Final 2010 after their performances at the Montgomerie Links and Da Nang Golf Club on the weekend. The team consisting of Andrew Hung, Tran Khac Nha, Truong The Cuong, Cheng Ko Shih, Pham Van Duong, Tran Thanh Tra and the only female Do Ngoc Mai will leave for the continental competition to be held in Australia next month.
After that, the Vietnamese golfer with the best score will represent the country at the World Finals in Stuttgart City in September.
In last year's tournament, Nguyen Quang Duc performed well at the Asian Final to ensure Viet Nam became a member of the champion team at the World Final for the first time in Germany.
The Viet Nam Final took place over two days with the participation of 150 Vietnamese and foreign golfers.
The first day saw simultaneous tee-offs at the two golf courses and the scores were calculated according to player handicaps.
The first day scores were then used to determine the flights for the next day, which was calculated according to the cut method.
Besides the prizes for the seven best golfers, the organisers also presented prizes in categories including longest drive, nearest to the hole and best average.
This was the eighth occasion that the Viet Nam Final had been organised, with the event taking place in the central region for the first time. The event was previously held in different venues each year. — VNS
