HA NOI — Team Ha Noi continued to triumph at the 28th National Table Tennis Championships, with a 3-0 win over the Army team to take yet another gold medal in the men's doubles event.

The Army team had a lot of support against the 25th Southeast Asian Games silver medalists, Tran Tuan Quynh and Nguyen Nam Hai of Ha Noi, but Dinh Quang Linh and Nguyen Thanh Luan of the Army were powerless against the tough opposition.

Ha Noi took the first set 11-8 with outstanding performances in both attack and defence.

The Army team seemed to get back into the match in the second set in which they held a 9-6 lead. However, the pressure got to veteran Linh as he made a series of unforced errors. Youngster Luan was unable to stem the ensuing Hanoian onslaught, and they eventually lost the set 11-9.

The loss drained their confidence and they were easily defeated 11-3 in the third set.

On Wednesday, Ha Noi also beat the Army in the final of the men's team event.

In the women's competition, Xuan Hang and My Trang took just 25 minutes to see off Viet Linh and Tuong Giang of the Police to take gold for HCM City.

Hang and Trang won the match 3-0 (11-9, 11-7, 11-7).

The final match of the mixed doubles event was an all Army affair with Quang Linh and Luong Thi Tam coming through 3-2 against Thanh Luan and Vu Thi Ha.

The event, which attracted 15 teams from around the country, is part of the 6th National Sports Games and was co-organised by Nhan Dan (People) newspaper, the National Sports Administration and the Viet Nam Table Tennis Federation in the southern city of My Tho, Tien Giang Province. — VNS
