US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State works with departments

HA NOI — US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Scot Marciel ended a visited to Viet Nam yesterday.

Marciel was received by Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Nguyen Xuan Phuc and he also worked with leaders from the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance and Public Security.

During the course of their discussions, they exchanged views about the relations between Viet Nam and the United States, and ASEAN and the United States, as well as other regional and world issues of mutual interest.

Communist Party delegation pays respects to Peru counterparts

HA NOI — A delegation of the Communist Party of VieÄt Nam attended the 8th Congress of the Communist Party of Peru-Red Fatherland in Lima last week.

The delegation, headed by Deputy Director of the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations Nguyen Manh Hung, conveyed a message of congratulations from the Committee to the Congress.

Its meetings with the Politburo members of the Peru Party and the participants at the Congress focused on the national renewal cause and socialist achievements in Viet Nam.

Peru Party president Alberto Moreno Rojas praised the role and position of the Vietnamese Party in the international communist movement and its great achievements of historical significance in national renewal, describing them as revival power of socialism and an example for Peru Party.

Rojas affirmed his wish to further boost relations with Viet Nam. —VNS

Delegates at the 11th National Party Congress yesterday voted to elect members for the 11th Party Central Committee, which will consist of 175 official and 25 alternate members.
