Security Council term achieves Party goals

HA NOI — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem yesterday emphasised that the country's success as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in 2008-09 had contributed to implementing the diplomatic policies of the 10th National Party Congress.

He made this statement at the inter-sectorial meeting to review all the activities of the country at the UN Security Council.

Khiem said that this success served as an achievement of the Party and the people under the leadership of the Party and State duringthe renewal process.

At the meeting, representatives of ministries and agencies agreed that the country had reached the goals which it had set forth as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, kept its independence and sovereignty and contributed to finding peaceful solutions to international conflicts and disputes.

They also agreed that all this had lifted Viet Nam's status in the world and boosted relations between it and other countries, the United Nations and other international organisations.

He greatly appreciated the efforts of the ministries and agencies and the mass media, which had contributed to the nation's accomplishments as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. — VNS

Delegates at the 11th National Party Congress yesterday voted to elect members for the 11th Party Central Committee, which will consist of 175 official and 25 alternate members.
As many as 175 official and 25 alternate members will be elected to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) for the 11th tenure.
