Revolutionary hero given State funeral

HA NOI — A State funeral ceremony was held at the National Funeral Hall yesterday to mourn former Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party cum former head of the People's Supreme Procuracy Tran Quyet who recently died after an illness.

Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, President Nguyen Minh Triet, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and Chairman of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee Huynh Dam paid their tributes to the late secretary.

Former General Secretaries Do Muoi and Le Kha Phieu, former Presidents Le Duc Anh and Tran Duc Luong, and other Party and State leaders sent wreaths to the ceremony.

Representatives from agencies at central and local levels, ministries, cities and provinces across the country also paid their tributes and sent condolences to the family of the deceased.

In the memorial service, Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Secretariat Truong Tan Sang reminisced about Quyet's glorious revolutionary career.

Quyet was born in Ngoc Dong Commune, Duy Tien District, Ha Nam Province. He was a member of the Party Central Committee (4th, 5th and 6th congresses).

During his career, he received the Gold Star Order, the highest honour given by the Vietnamese State, and a 60-year Party membership insignia as well as many other awards for his contributions. — VNS

Delegates at the 11th National Party Congress yesterday voted to elect members for the 11th Party Central Committee, which will consist of 175 official and 25 alternate members.
