Viet Nam wants US Hoang Sa map corrected

HA NOI — Viet Nam wanted the US National Geographic Society to correct a newly-published map that made the "Paracel Island" (Hoang Sa archipelago) part of China, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nguyen Phuong Nga.

"Viet Nam has indisputable sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos," she said in reply to reporter questions on Saturday.

"We request that the National Geographic correct its mistake."

Hoang Sa District's People's Committee chairman Dang Cong Ngu told a Vietnam News Agency reporter that Viet Nam's sovereignty over the island was indisputable.

History and the law proved it, he said.
