Party leader affirms VN's priority on ties with China

HA NOI — Viet Nam consistently attaches importance to developing the traditional friendship and comprehensive co-operation with neighbouring China.

Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh affirmed the countries' co-operation, while receiving Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi. The Chinese minister is in Viet Nam to attend the ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the 17th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).

The Party leader said he was pleased with the continuously developing ties between the two countries and proud of the practical activities that will mark Viet Nam-China Friendship Year 2010.

Manh expressed his wish that the two sides successfully organise the upcoming Viet Nam-China Youth Festival in China's Guangxi Province and the sixth theoretical workshop between the Communist Parties of Viet Nam and China in Viet Nam's central city of Da Nang.

He also expressed thanks for China's support of Viet Nam's position as ASEAN Chair.

Minister Yang Jiechi said he was delighted with the great achievements the Vietnamese people had made during the renewal process.

He expressed his determination to help boost co-operation with the Viet Nam by implementing high-level agreements, as well as activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the two countries' diplomatic ties and China-Viet Nam Friendship Year 2010.

The minister spoke highly of Viet Nam's preparations for the ASEAN meetings and vowed to actively co-operate with the country during the year it holds the ASEAN chairmanship. — VNS

Delegates at the 11th National Party Congress yesterday voted to elect members for the 11th Party Central Committee, which will consist of 175 official and 25 alternate members.
As many as 175 official and 25 alternate members will be elected to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) for the 11th tenure.
