NINH BINH — President Nguyen Minh Triet has called for Ninh Binh Province, about 90km south of Ha Noi, to reinforce its effort to achieve its target of 18 per cent economic growth this year.

The province already has a strategy for achieving this growth and the President asked them to follow it so that it becomes a reality.

It included a more open environment for investment and better trained personnel to respond to investor requirements.

The 15 per cent growth of 2009 was a remarkable success against the global downturn, the President said at a meeting with key provincial officials yesterday.

He also praised their effort to complete socio-economic tasks while ensuring successful judiciary reform.

More importantly, the province's economic restructure had been rapidly switched toward industrialisation and modernisation, particular civil engineering and tourism.

Ninh Binh farmers had harvested a bumper 2010 Winter-Spring crop of 260,000 tonnes with the value of product taken from each hectare of land worth almost VND68 million (US$3,700).

Provincial schools had been rated third among those which matched the national standard while measures to ensure public security and defence had been given much attention together with Party building.

The percentage of poor households was just 6.87 per cent.

The President said the number of reversed or wrong judgements by provincial and district courts had been considerably reduced and "this is an indication of the improving competency of judiciary staff."
