Viet Nam, Cuba to bolster ties

HA NOI — Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met with Co-ordinator General of the Cuban Committees for the Defence of the Revolution (CDR) Carlos Rafael Miranda Martinez yesterday during his visit to Ha Noi.

Martinez thanked the Vietnamese Party, State and people for the support they had offered to Cuba.

He briefed the Party leader on the results of the talks between the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee and the CDR earlier, as well as the recent positive changes in Cuba's socio-economic situation.

Martinez said he appreciated the role of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front (VFF) in building and maintaining the mass solidarity of the country, which could offer good lessons for his committees.

He said he hoped the relations between the two parties, the two countries and between VFF and CDR would be enhanced.

Trong congratulated the success of the sixth Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba in April last year and the Party's national conference last January.

He thanked the Cuban Party and people for the support they had given to Viet Nam and confirmed the friendship between the two Parties and States, and promised to expand the comprehensive mutual co-operation. — VNS

Delegates at the 11th National Party Congress yesterday voted to elect members for the 11th Party Central Committee, which will consist of 175 official and 25 alternate members.
As many as 175 official and 25 alternate members will be elected to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) for the 11th tenure.
