29 stand trial on drug and bribery charges

THAI NGUYEN — As many as 29 suspects were taken to a 20-day trial at Thai Nguyen Province's People's Court on Tuesday for transporting and illegally trafficking 50 packages of heroin and giving and receiving bribes.

Under the verdict, the heroin trafficking gang includes 21 suspected members. The gang's activities began in June 2004 and were ended in February 2006.

After their arrests in 2006, the traffickers went to trial, but they bribed local inspectors, police and judges to dodge sentencing.

2 toll collection stations suspended

HA NOI — Two toll collection stations will be suspended after an assessment of their financial activities as of March 15 and April 1 on National Highways 3 and 6, in the districts of Chuong My and Soc Son, said Nguyen Xuan Tan, deputy director of the Ha Noi Department of Transport.

The stations were previously under the management of the Viet Nam Road Administration, though they have since been handed over to the department.

The department also asked traffic inspectors to check the operations of other stations. —VNS
