Inspectors find illegal pesticide products

HA NOI — The Plant Protection Department's branch in Ha Noi has discovered nine shops trading illegal pesticide products during inspections launched earlier this month.

The branch inspected 39 shops in Ha Noi. Most violations related to trade of products that had expired or were not allowed to e sold in Viet Nam.

Inspectors also discovered two companies producing their own pesticide without a licence.

Court jails tourist extortion gang

HCM CITY — The leader of an extortion gang was given 20 years in prison by the HCM People's Court last Thursday.

The 27-year-old man and his gang called themselves tour guides to lure Japanese visitors to restaurants where they forced them to pay exorbitant prices.

The gang confiscated the belongings of the visitors or escorted them to ATM booths to take their money.

The other five in the gang were sentenced from four to 12 years in prison.-VNS
