Three men arrested for stealing key codes

HA NOI — Ha Noi Police arrested on Wednesday three men for allegedly stealing and selling key codes for anti-virus software BitDefender.

Nguyen Ngoc Thanh, 27, and his brother Nguyen Ngoc Thang, 19, of Thanh Xuan District admitted to the police that Thanh received the key codes after they were stolen by technician Nguyen Manh Ha from VIAMI software joint stock company, where they worked from late last year to March.

They allegedly wanted to sell 13,500 codes for the software on the internet, hoping to make a total of VND840 million (US$42,000).

The investigation followed a report made to police by the company's director two weeks ago.

Man prosecuted after faking identity

QUANG NGAI — Police in central Quang Ngai Province last Saturday prosecuted a man after he was caught posing as a reporter while seeking bribes from traffic policemen, said provincial police officer Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hong Vinh.

Truong Huynh Lam, 29, of central Da Nang City, used fake business cards to pass himself off as a reporter from Thanh Nien (Young people) newspaper. He made appointments with local traffic policemen at which he would ask for ‘gifts' for favourable media coverage. — VNS
