HCM CITY — HCM City's Information and Communications Department ordered 18 of the city's telecommunications service providers to tighten control of online games.
The result: internet shops must stop allowing online games to be played between the hours of 10pm and 8am and these shops cannot be within a 200-metre radius of schools.
The weight of this new regulation is evidenced by the fact that HCM City currently has 4,000 internet shops and over 1 million internet subscribers.
This new restriction, which was also imposed in Ha Noi, aims to cut down the abuse of online games among young people.
Internet service providers must provide a list of internet protocol addresses of internet shops so that online game providers are prohibited from letting games be played past curfew.
Internet shops that violate these regulations will be banned from offering online games entirely.
In addition, the department has also ordered internet service providers to continue to research and apply technical measures in order to thoroughly prevent internet-users from accessing online games operated on host computers in foreign countries. — VNS
