Handicapped to receive employment assistance

HA NOI — Handicapped people in the southern province of Dong Nai are going to receive employment assistance this year as part of a project worth more than US$772,000, implemented by the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and Handicap International in Viet Nam.

The project focuses on providing training courses to identify the needs of people with disabilities in terms of social protection and employment, training employment agencies and conducting campaigns to raise awareness among the public and policy makers.

According to the latest department survey, at the end of 2011, more than 52 per cent of people living with disabilities were unemployed although they were capable of working.

The survey also found that there were limited opportunities for vocational training, job applications and social protection for people with disabilities. — VNS
