Mother given wrong baby in hospital

HA NOI — Deputy Director of Ha Noi Obstetrics Hospital Le Thanh Thuy admitted on Tuesday that the hospital gave the wrong baby to a mother.

Tran Thi Thuy, 34, from Tu Liem District, gave birth to a 3.4kg boy in the hospital last Saturday.

After surgery, hospital staff let Thuy's relatives see the baby's face. Then they took the baby to another room with the number 550 on his neck, saying to his family that the baby would be back with his mother at 3pm.

However, the baby was given to Le Kim Oanh from Cau Giay District, whose baby was numbered 585.

Oanh said she did not realise the mistake as she had not checked the number. — VNS
